Setting new years resolutions is not for everyone. For some it can be a path towards a very positive and successful year while others can turn a failed resolution into an excuse for feeling sorry for themselves. The pros and cons of goal setting are complex. On one hand trying to plan and create expectations and goals can take you out of the present moment of feeling grateful for the simple things you already have, while on the other hand resolutions like practicing meditation can be the tool that allows you to be more present and grateful.
My tips for setting new years resolutions, if you choose to do so, are to keep them short and focused, don’t take them so seriously because slipping up once in a while is inevitable, and most important balance you self oriented goals like body, business or relationship goals with service oriented goals like being less judgmental and helping those in need more often.
